Life seemed perfect for widower Mark when he took his new girlfriend, Lisa, to the lovely two-story cabin he had built for his late first wife.
They were both very happy for about a year, and Mark was ecstatic when he learned Lisa was pregnant with twins. The house was small enough for a double addition to the family, so they both put the cabin up for sale and started looking for a bigger place… That’s when the trouble started.
Suddenly, the cabin flooded with the distinctive smell of expensive perfume. The first time Mark smelled it, he turned pale and told Lisa it was his dead wife’s favorite scent.
Then the furniture Lisa had rearranged went back to its original place. The books in Mark’s studio were pulled off his shelves and ordered alphabetically, the way his first wife had kept them. The ghost of that woman Mark had loved so much had returned to the lodge. But why now, a full year after being remarried?
One afternoon, Lisa was in the basement washing clothes while Mark stood outside, discussing the sale of the cabin with her lawyer. They had just received a generous offer on the house and decided to take it. When Lisa finished emptying the washing machine, she turned around to go upstairs and saw a young woman floating one foot above the stairs.
āThis is my house. Don’t sell my house! āsaid the unknown.
Her pretty face turned into a face of rage. She shook her fist at Lisa and the poor thing screamed in horror, dropping the wet clothes basket to run out.
Lashing the basement door behind her, Lisa locked it and sat on the lawn, breathless. Suddenly, the door started shaking violently, as if someone was pushing it.
āDon’t sell my house ā exclaimed the ghost again, shaking the doorā. If you sell my house, something terrible will happen to your family! Don’t sell my house!
The roar of a car engine broke through the words of the ghost, as the lawyer bid Mark goodbye and walked away.
Immediately, the tremors and blows ceased, as if the departure of the hated real estate lawyer had instantly appeased the ghost.
When Lisa described the ghost, Mark recognized her as his dead wife. Until then, he had forgotten that he had promised his first wife that he would never sell the cottage.
Mark and Lisa attempted to appease the ghost by bringing in a priest to pray over the place. But the house kept filling with the suffocating smell of that expensive perfume. Lisa feared for her unborn babies, living in such a haunted atmosphere.
After much discussion, Mark and Lisa decided to defy the ghost and sell the cabin… The night after the family moved, Lisa woke up with terrible abdominal pain. Mark rushed her to the hospital, where she gave birth to the twins, who were still born.
On his way home from the hospital, Mark’s car was hit by a truck, and he died instantly.
At that very moment, Lisa sat suddenly on her hospital bed, staring at an empty corner of the room. All of a sudden, he screamed!. The ghost of Mark’s ex-wife was in the room, floating before his eyes.
Terrified, Lisa felt her body completely paralyze… He then died instantly from a brain aneurysm.
